In the exhibit, “A Closer Look,” artist Susan Johnson examines familiar animal species from multiple angles and encourages viewers to see them anew. Exploring the line between realism and abstraction, Johnson moves each subject away from the context of its environment and utilizes negative space and cast shadow to draw attention to color, texture and movement. This exhibit portrays a selection of species found in the marine environment of mid-coast Maine and the New England countryside.
